The base station, which is on top of the glacier measures a few things about itself: battery voltage, box tilt (so we can tell if it is in danger) box humidity and temperature. It also gathers the weather station data.

Here we see the battery voltage from the system deployed in summer 2005. The new wind generator has kept it well charged.
