In order to drill holes in the glacier we use a Karcher hot water jetwash. This is attached to a very long hose with a heavy rod at the end with a small apperture at the end.

This is the hot water drill in action for the first time. A jerry can of diesel later (and 1hr) and we had a 72m hole! You can see the green water-but used as a supply, fed by a stream 30m up from it.

A simple funnel on the end of a long hose feeds water into the green barrel. This was pretty stable for three weeks and could provide plenty of water.

This is the view down a hole (#1). The hot hose cuts a groove in one side and they widen at the top if streams flow in.
