The base station is just visible at the top.

Then we received email from Valentin Burki showing the base had fallen down a deep crack which openned in the glacier.

Then we went on a “rescue mission” in November – when the base had been seen floating in the lake! This is what it looked like on recovery.

The whole ice front had fallen into the lake – a catastrophic loss of glacier ice.
