Satellite Networks are a great way to get data from remote field sites back to Earth Scientists. They use more energy and have cost implications but these can be outweighed by the amazing ability to work anywhere on the planet. We have investigated the use of several:

Iridium – an established array of large sats

Swarm – uses nano-sats, less energy and has lower costs
